Sai Vidya Institute of Technology holds 3/1 COY NCC affiliated to 1 KARNATAKA SIGNAL REGIMENT NCC with SD and SW Cadet divisions (Army) under NCC Group HQ ‘A’ of Karnataka and Goa Directorate. The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a youth development movement. It has enormous potential for nation building. The NCC provides opportunities to the youth of the country for their all-round development with a sense of Duty, Commitment, Dedication, Discipline and Moral Values so that they become able leaders and useful citizens. The NCC provides exposure to the cadets in a wide range of activities., with a distinct emphasis on Social Services, Discipline and Adventure Training. The NCC is open to all regular students of schools and colleges on a voluntary basis. The students have no liability for active military service.

AIM OF NCC:
The ‘Aims’ of the NCC laid out in 1988 have stood the test of time and continue to meet the requirements expected of it in the current socio–economic scenario of the country.
The NCC aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. Further, it aims at creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose. Needless to say, the NCC also provides an environment conducive to motivating young Indians to join the armed forces.


MOTTO OF NCC:
The need for having motto for the Corps was discussed in the 11th Central Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting held on 11 Aug 1978. The mottos suggested were “Duty and Discipline”; “Duty, Unity and Discipline”; “Duty and Unity”; “Unity and Discipline”. The final decision for selection of “Unity and Discipline” as motto for the NCC was taken in the 12th CAC meeting held on 12 Oct 1980.


CORE VALUES:
The NCC is a responsive, learning and continuously evolving organization. Its activity is guided by certain Core Values that we endeavour to instil among all ranks of the NCC. These include the following:
1. A sense of patriotic commitment to encourage cadets to contribute to national development.
2. Respect for diversities in religion, language, culture, ethnicity, life style and habitat to instill a sense of National unity and social cohesion.
3. Abiding commitment to learn and adhere to the norms and values enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
4. Understanding the value of a just and impartial exercise of authority.
5. Ability to participate in community development and other social programme.
6. A healthy life style free of substance abuse and other unhealthy practices.
7. Sensitivity to the needs of poor and socially disadvantaged fellow citizens.
8. Inculcating habits of restraint and self-awareness.
9. Understanding the values of honesty, truthfulness, self-sacrifice, perseverance and hard work.
10. Respect for knowledge, wisdom and the power of ideas.


ACTIVITIES OF NCC:
The activities of NCC can be broadly divided into the following distinct categories described below:
1. Institutional Training.
2. Camp Training.
3. Attachment Training.
4. Army/Naval/Air Wing Activities.
5. Youth Exchange Programme.
6. Community Development Programme cum Social Service Activities.
7. Adventure Training, Cycle Expedition, Trekking & Sports etc.
8. Foot Drill, Arms Drill & Weapons Training.
9. Self Defence.
10. Map Reading.


ENROLLMENT POLICIES
Enrolment into the National Cadet Corps is on a voluntary basis. Students, both boys and girls, can join at the age of 13 years in Junior Division (JD)/Junior Wing (JW) (Class VIII to X). Enrolment in Senior Division (SD)/Senior Wing (SW) is from class XI to Class XII in Schools and also in degree colleges. A Cadet can stay in JD/JW for two years and in the SD/SW for two years.

Enrolment commences at the beginning of the academic session immediately following the completion of the Institutional admission to the academic institutions.

Based on the aim of the NCC, the Organization has laid down Training Syllabi for the cadets. The syllabi for the Junior Division Cadets cover a period of two years and Senior Division it is two years, except for minor variations, the syllabus is similar for both boys’ and girls’ cadets. The training schedules planned for the cadets ensure that the benefit of the organization reaches the maximum number of cadets.
