The department is headed by Dr.Yoganand H S a highly qualified professor with an experience of more than 14 years. He is supported by well qualified faculty members. Efficient teaching along with the best training in the laboratories are the highlights of the department. The department is maintaining an aggregate of 90-95 % of result in Engineering Physics theory examination and 100 % result in Engineering Physics practical examination of VTU from its inception.

The department emphasis on the importance of practical training supplement to class room teaching. In this connection, all the students are encouraged to conduct experiments on their own. The department has a spacious and well equipped laboratory. The department provides required components and gadgets to students to try handson experience in practical classes.

The department encourages research, publication of papers and also conducts seminars, guest lecturers regularly by inviting experts from industry, IISc, ISRO and other research organizations to keep the students to abreast with latest technological innovations. The department organizes a technical poster presentation “VIGNANOTSAVA” for the first year students where the students are encouraged to present technical papers related to advances in Physics.
