Workshop | Academic Year - 2017-18 | 08 Aug, 2020
International Workshop on Integrated CO2 refrigeration systems for Supermarkets was a part of the ongoing Indo-Norwegian project (INDEE) being carried out at IIT Madras. The project is approved by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of Norway through SINTEF and NTNU, Norway. The main aim of INDEE is to eliminate conventional synthetic (man-made) refrigerants which are so far highly popular in developing countries like India.
The students and faculty of SVIT participated in this two days international workshop and benefited with this emerging technology in the fields of Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC & R). The workshop was very useful for both students and faculty of SVIT, as it was on new technology to be followed by HVAC industries to reduce Global Warming Potential and Ozone Depleting Potential and the problems faced by researchers in the development of CO2 Systems.
During the workshop, lectures delivered by distinguished speakers from various research institutes and industry professional about the integrated CO2 system to replace existing systems working on synthetic refrigerants. On the first day live demonstration on multi-evaporator (freezing at -29oC, refrigeration at - 6 oC and air conditioning at 9oC), multi-ejector CO2 system was organized which was built at Refrigeration and Air conditioning lab facility, IIT Madras. The system has heat recovery facility for waste heat utilization for applications such as milk dairy, hospitals, hotels, etc.
